Waitrose has issued an urgent recall for its own-brand Rhubarb Crumble because the product contains oats (gluten), which are not declared on the label. The recall affects England, Scotland and Wales.
The product is described as a "Tangy rhubarb compôte topped with a crisp, buttery crumble." The recall applies to all 500g packs with a use-by date of 19 August 2026. Customers are advised to check their freezers, as the item is suitable for freezing.
Who is affected
The undeclared oats (gluten) pose a particular risk to people with gluten intolerance and those with coeliac disease. Products without the specified use-by date are not included in the recall.
The official notice states: "Waitrose & Partners is recalling Waitrose Rhubarb Crumble because the product contains oats (gluten) which are not declared on the label."
What customers should do
Customers are warned not to consume the product. Instead, they should package the item and return it to their local Waitrose & Partners branch for a refund.
The statement concludes: "We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused."
