A money-saving expert has revealed a simple receipt hack that could get you 'unlimited' free McDonald's cheeseburgers, with the only catch being a £5 minimum spend each time.
Jordon Cox, known as Britain's Coupon King, shared the trick on Instagram. Every McDonald's receipt includes a link to a short customer survey. Completing it earns a voucher for a free item like a cheeseburger, fries, or McFlurry on your next visit.
The Trick to Endless Freebies
Cox explained: "Every time you get a receipt, there's a survey at the top. Fill it out; it takes a few minutes. Once you do, you get a voucher for a free cheeseburger when you spend £5 or more. But here's the trick - when you claim the voucher, you get another receipt, so you can keep on doing it and get unlimited free cheeseburgers for as long as you come."
He added in the post's caption: "When you get a McDonald's receipt, have a look at the very top — it has a promotion called 'Food For Thoughts'. It's a survey that takes 2 minutes if you whizz through it ... and it gets you a voucher for a free cheeseburger (McFlurry or Fries) the next time you visit."
How to Claim Your Free Item
To use the hack, visit the Food for Thoughts website using the link on your receipt, enter the 12-digit code and total spent, complete the survey, and provide your email to receive the voucher. The voucher is valid for use in-store when you spend £5 or more.
Cox also noted that vouchers are valid until the end of the following month, giving ample time to redeem them.
Debate Over 'Free' Label
The tip sparked online debate, with some questioning whether a free item requiring a £5 spend truly counts as free. One commenter said: "Unlimited free cheeseburgers, but you have to spend £5 every time you want one." Another added: "It's not free if you've got to spend £5."
Supporters countered that if you're already spending £5, the extra cheeseburger is effectively free. One person noted: "People are not getting it. If you are going anyway and you're already spending £5, you get a free cheeseburger if you fill out the survey on the receipt. When you get the free cheeseburger, you get another receipt. When you get that receipt, you can then fill out the survey again, and then you get another free cheeseburger, and so on and so forth."
