Tru Fru Taste Test: Are They Worth the Hype?

After seeing viral Trü Frü chocolate-covered frozen fruit on social media, Social News Reporter Alice Sjoberg decided to try six flavours to determine if they are worth the hype.

First Impressions

While I generally prefer savoury foods, chocolate and fruit are my go-to sweet treats. When I learned that Trü Frü had arrived in the UK, I was intrigued. The brand, popular among celebrities like Emma Chamberlain, Charli XCX, and Alix Earle, launched in the UK in March 2024, initially at Tesco before expanding to Waitrose and other supermarkets.

However, with prices ranging from £4.80 to £6 per bag, I hesitated. But my cravings won, and I sampled six flavours to see if they are worth the cost.

The Flavours

Raspberries

I first tried milk and dark chocolate-covered raspberries. They were larger than expected, but being frozen raspberries coated in white and milk or dark chocolate, the size made sense. The first bite was heavenly. The raspberries tasted remarkably fresh, reminiscent of picking them in my family's garden. Both chocolate varieties added a creamy richness, and the bags were quickly finished by me and my boyfriend.

Blueberries

The dark chocolate blueberries were a pleasant surprise. I had never considered pairing blueberries with chocolate, but it works wonderfully. The chocolate initially dominated, but the blueberry flavour emerged to create a perfect balance.

Strawberries

Chocolate-covered strawberries were an obvious hit. The dark chocolate version was my favourite, as its bitterness balanced the sweetness of the strawberries. The milk chocolate variant was equally enjoyable. However, the white chocolate layer was barely perceptible, which suited me but may disappoint fans.

Pina Colada Bites

The wild card was the Pina Colada bites: frozen pineapple with coconut and white chocolate. Despite my dislike for white chocolate and coconut, I was impressed. The frozen pineapple texture took some getting used to, but the flavour evoked a tropical beach.

The Verdict

Trü Frü is undeniably delicious—chocolate-covered berries are hard to mess up. However, at £6 per bag, I hesitate. I could make something similar for a fraction of the cost, though I likely never will. It satisfied a craving I didn't know I had, and I will happily finish the remaining bags.
