Coupon King shares Tesco scanner hack to 'save hours' shopping
Tesco scanner hack: Coupon King's tip to save hours

Money-saving expert Jordon Cox, known as the 'Coupon King', has shared a Tesco hack that he says can save shoppers hours on their next supermarket visit. The tip uses the store's self-scanner devices, which require a Tesco Clubcard to operate.

How the scanner hack works

In a video, Cox demonstrated how shoppers can add items to their online shopping list before entering the store. When they then use a Tesco self-scanner, the device shows which aisle each item is in and highlights which products are out of stock. He said the feature "makes it so much easier if you just want to get in and get out."

The scanners, available in many Tesco stores, let customers scan items as they shop, removing the need to scan products individually at the checkout and providing a running total of spending. They are linked to the shopper's Clubcard, which enables the additional functionality.

Extra advice and viewer reactions

Cox also suggested that shoppers who never buy online could add their weekly shop to an online basket without completing the purchase, so the list appears on the scanner each week. The tip left followers divided, with some praising it and others questioning its usefulness.

One viewer wrote: "Love this tip." Another commented: "Clever. A list and a short visit are half of any grocery budget. The aisles are designed to keep you browsing." A third said: "I have recently discovered this! It's amazing, saves me from over buying so much and telling me what's in stock."

However, some were less convinced. One person said: "This just adds time overall as you have to select the specific item," while another questioned why shoppers would spend ten minutes entering items into an app instead of walking around the store. One user reported that the scanner incorrectly showed a 24-box of Diet Coke as in stock, while another said it wrongly flagged an item as out of stock.

Some commenters suggested simply having groceries delivered instead, with one noting that it avoids in-store temptation and helps savings accumulate over time.
