Several major retailers, including Tesco, Iceland and Amazon, have issued urgent recalls over the past week or so. Shoppers are being advised to check their purchases, as affected items include food that may be contaminated with E. coli, a children's craft kit that may contain asbestos, and a skincare product that may be microbiologically contaminated. Anyone who has bought any of the affected products is urged to stop using them immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Tesco salad recalled over E. coli fears
Tesco is recalling Tesco Finest Mozzarella Pearls & Pesto Orzo Salad, 215g, because of possible contamination with E. coli. Symptoms caused by this infection include diarrhoea, stomach pain, vomiting and sometimes dehydration.
The product has a use-by date of August 25, 26 and 27, 2026. If you have bought this product, do not eat it, and return it to your nearest Tesco for a full refund. If you have eaten it and are experiencing any of the above symptoms, you should stay home until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.
Chicken wraps recalled by Summit Foods
A selection of chicken sandwiches sold in Iceland has been recalled by Summit Foods, also because of potential E. coli contamination. The affected products include Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap, Snacksters Hoi Sin Wrap, East Street Deli Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap and Target A Snack Chicken Fajita Wrap, all with use-by dates up to and including September 5, 2026.
If you have bought any of these, do not eat them. Instead, dispose of the product and provide proof of purchase on sales@summitfoods.co.uk, stating when and where it was purchased, for a refund.
Sand art kit and micellar water recalled
A children's sand art activity kit sold on Amazon and eBay has been urgently recalled due to the possible presence of asbestos. The brand on the box is Colour Day, Fairtrade Wholesale UK Limited, product code 8929/Sand-12. Asbestos is a banned substance because it poses a risk to health even at low levels of exposure, so this product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
The product has been recalled from end users by the importer, Fairtrade Wholesale UK Limited, and online marketplaces eBay and Amazon. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) recommends that owners stop using this product immediately and keep it out of the reach of children, using gloves and a mask when binning it. You can return it to wherever it was purchased for a full refund.
Some batches of Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Water may be microbiologically contaminated, which may cause eye inflammation. The affected sizes and batch codes are 200ml (610041, 611641, 615941), 400ml (611141, 611341, 611441, 613341, 613441, 614541, 614741, 614) and 730ml (613841, 613941, 611041, 616641, 616741). These products were being sold at retailers including Home Bargains and Boots, and have been withdrawn from shelves and recalled from end users by Unilever.
