Tesco has upgraded its Clubcard scheme so customers can earn points when charging their electric cars. The supermarket says leading electric car charging firm Be.EV has joined as a points partner, meaning members can earn a point for every £1 spent at one of their charging locations.
How the new Clubcard points work
Be.EV was established in 2019 and has more than 2,500 charging bays across 680 UK sites. Tesco's announcement on Thursday explains Clubcard members need to link their account with the Be.EV charging app to access the new rewards.
They'll need to sign in or create a Be.EV account, then go to the account area and click 'link Tesco Clubcard account'. Points are said to then be collected automatically, so the UK's 24 million Clubcard members don't need to act every time they charge their vehicles.
Partnership praised by Tesco and Be.EV
Tesco Group's membership and loyalty director, Shama Wilson, said: "We are always looking for new ways for Clubcard members to collect Clubcard points and so we are delighted to announce our new partnership with Be.EV. This will allow Clubcard members to collect points when they charge their vehicles at thousands of charging bays across the UK."
She added: "With more and more Tesco shoppers opting for electric vehicles, we're sure that many of our customers will be excited by this latest addition to Clubcard."
Be.EV's UK network and existing Tesco presence
Be.EV was established in Greater Manchester and Tesco says it's now regarded as one of the top 10 largest UK vehicle charging networks. The company already has some charging bays at Tesco Express stores, so customers can top up their vehicle while shopping.
CEO of Be.EV, Asif Ghafoor, said: "This is about making the switch to electric genuinely worth it. Drivers are already charging on these journeys but now every charge means they can collect Clubcard points to spend on their weekly shop or a day out. Pairing reliable ultra-rapid charging with rewards people actually value is how you make EV ownership feel effortless."
