Tesco Clubcard customers are being urged to check their accounts as millions of pounds worth of vouchers are due to expire at the end of August. Around £11million in Clubcard vouchers will become worthless at 11.59pm on Monday, August 31, unless shoppers use them before the deadline.
Check your vouchers before the deadline
Clubcard vouchers usually remain valid for two years from the date they are issued, meaning some customers could have older rewards sitting unused in their accounts. Shoppers can check what they have available through the Tesco website by opening their Clubcard account and selecting the 'Vouchers' section. The same information can be found in the Tesco app under 'Clubcard' and then 'Vouchers', where customers should also be able to see when each one expires.
Boost voucher value with Reward Partners
Vouchers can be spent at Tesco at their face value, meaning a £5 voucher would knock £5 off a customer's shopping bill. However, customers may be able to get considerably more for them by exchanging vouchers with selected Clubcard Reward Partners. A £5 Clubcard voucher can currently be worth £10 with a number of partners, including Alton Towers, Disney+ and Hotels.com.
Some restaurant rewards are worth even more, with vouchers being tripled at selected chains. This means a £5 voucher could be converted into £15 to spend at restaurants including ASK Italian, Bella Italia, Frankie & Benny's, Las Iguanas, Pizza Express, Prezzo and Zizzi.
Extending vouchers: a possible option
Customers who are not ready to use vouchers approaching their expiry date may also have another option. It is possible in some circumstances to use a small amount of a voucher through Tesco's Clubcard Rewards scheme, with the remaining balance returned to the customer's account as a new voucher with a later expiry date. For example, someone using 50p from a £5 voucher could have the remaining £4.50 returned to their account. The replacement voucher can then have an expiry date two years into the future.
Tesco's terms do allow it to reject Reward Partner transactions where it believes the system is being deliberately used simply to extend vouchers, so customers should bear this in mind. Anyone with vouchers expiring this month will need to use them, or attempt to extend them, before 11.59pm on August 31.
