A shopper who regularly buys from M&S and Sainsbury's says they keep returning to Tesco for one cheap staple: its 62p washing-up liquid.
Sophie Harris, a Senior Lifestyle Reporter, wrote that cutting costs on the weekly grocery shop does not mean switching to the most budget-friendly supermarket for every item. She still enjoys buying products from M&S because she believes the quality is superior. However, with food costs continuing to strain household finances, she says small adjustments can help keep spending within limits.
A 62p staple that outperforms brands
Harris explained that comparing prices between supermarkets and brands can uncover substantial differences, even for daily essentials. It can also mean buying specific products from another store rather than getting everything from one place.
She said she is fond of M&S's fruit selection and Sainsbury's own-label ranges, but one product she makes a point of buying at Tesco is its washing-up liquid, priced at just 62p for 500ml. She added that she has sampled numerous options over the years, and even Fairy doesn't withstand comparison to Tesco's original washing-up liquid.
Why it wins over alternatives
Harris described the Tesco product as having a wonderful fragrance, lathering beautifully, and said a bottle goes considerably further for her than M&S's washing-up liquid, which she found difficult to dispense and led her to use more than needed.
She said she hadn't considered herself particular about washing-up liquid until she recognised that an easily-dispensing bottle that creates good foam genuinely makes the task considerably simpler and more pleasant.
Glowing reviews and another bargain find
The 62p staple has garnered glowing reviews on the Tesco website. One customer wrote: "I use this all the time. It's very good for a cheaper option to the main supplier." Another said: "It's every bit good if not better than Fairy Liquid, which I find to be poor." A third said: "I find that this is just as good as Fairy washing up liquid. It lasts well and gets the dishes clean." A fourth added that they swapped from branded items to this washing-up liquid and are super happy with the change.
Harris also highlighted Tesco's Pure Fabric Conditioner as another impressive find for those with sensitive skin, priced at £1.61 for a 1.25L bottle, and said it will be making a regular appearance in her shopping basket.
