A cleaning expert has revealed that a common bathroom item can banish stubborn carpet stains in minutes. Instagram cleaning guru Lynsey Crombie, known as the Queen of Clean, demonstrated that shaving foam acts as an "amazing carpet cleaner" in a recent social media video.
In the clip, Ms Crombie tackled persistent marks on light-coloured carpets, including makeup stains from mascara, lipstick and fake tan. Her method involves applying the foam directly to the stain, rubbing it in, leaving it to sit if necessary, and then rinsing with a damp cloth.
The hack has gained traction among fans of fellow cleaning influencer Sophie Hinchliffe, also known as Mrs Hinch. Several followers reported that trying shaving foam left their carpets looking "like new". The technique is backed by experts, with Homes and Gardens confirming that shaving foam helps break down grease, making it effective on tough stains.
Professional cleaner Ryan Knoll, owner of Tidy Casa, explained: "The foam easily breaks down grease and other substances that cling to the carpet fibers, making them easier to remove. All you have to do is apply, allow it to sit for a few minutes, and then scrub the area dry with a clean towel." He cautioned that only foam shaving creams should be used, not gel or soap versions, which could leave carpets slick and sticky.
The science behind the hack lies in surfactants, ingredients in shaving foam that break down stain particles. Kevin Geick, manager at Bio Recovery Deep Cleaning, noted: "The foam texture also allows the substance to cling to the stain, keeping the cleaning agent in contact with the stain for longer, rendering better results."
