NatWest cuts app login reward for Reward account holders from October
NatWest cuts app login reward from October 1

NatWest and RBS Reward account holders will no longer receive a £1 monthly bonus for logging into their mobile banking app from October 1. The change removes one of the perks available on the popular accounts, reducing the maximum annual bonus payments by 20 per cent.

Reward structure changes

The standard Reward account costs £2 a month. Currently, customers can earn up to £5 a month in bonuses: £4 from two direct debits of £2 each and £1 from logging into the banking app. From October 1, the £1 app login bonus will be scrapped, while the £4 direct debit bonus and the £2 monthly charge remain.

Premier Reward account holders will also lose their £1 app login bonus on the same date. However, they will keep the £9 monthly direct debit reward and 1 per cent cashback on debit card spending.

Bank's statement and expert advice

NatWest said: "From October 1, you’ll no longer get £1 in Rewards for logging into the mobile app once a month. But there are still ways to keep building your Rewards." This includes earning rewards when using a NatWest debit card at retailers such as Uber Eats or Morrisons, with offers changing every two weeks.

Haris Armstrong at Moneysavingexpert said: "If you're a NatWest or RBS Reward account customer, you'll no longer earn £1 a month (£12 a year) for logging into your mobile banking app from 1 October 2026. It means the net gain on these accounts will drop to £24 a year – so it's worth checking if you can earn more elsewhere."

He added: "The standard (and most popular) NatWest and RBS 'Reward' bank accounts currently charge a fee of £2 a month, but pay you up to £5 a month if you jump through a couple of hoops – meaning you can easily make up to £36 a year."

Other October changes

NatWest is also updating its Current Account Terms from October. Changes include limits on how many debit cards customers can order or replace, updated terms on how electronic payments are credited, and clearer terms on how long cash deposits made at Post Office counters using a pay-in slip take to clear.

Foreign transaction fees will be removed for Reward and Premier Reward debit cards, and a reference to a charge card being closed if a Black Account is closed will be removed. The bank is also updating wording in the Your Information section to clarify how it may share customer information within the NatWest group and with third parties.

The bank said new rules introduced earlier this year will be reflected in customers' Current Account and Savings Terms from October. It said: "Notice before closing an account. New rules introduced in April 2026 mean that if we ever need to close your account, we’ll give you at least 90 days’ notice and explain why. In some limited situations, this may not apply."

Customers can now spend abroad with no foreign transaction fees when using a NatWest debit card anywhere in the world, although ATM and local fees may apply.
