Families planning holidays during school breaks could save money by booking for specific weeks, according to MoneySavingExpert (MSE). The consumer website, founded by Martin Lewis, advises that the last two weeks of the summer holidays are typically cheaper due to lower demand.
MSE explains that package holiday prices often drop rapidly towards the end of August. This is because most people prefer to travel as early as possible, and many avoid being away the week before schools return. Booking at the last minute, or no more than eight to ten weeks before departure, can also yield bargains.
One MSE fan named Peach shared a success story on Facebook, booking seven nights at a Universal Hotel for two adults and two children at £750 each by waiting until three weeks before departure. The price included flights and transfers from Manchester via a major airline.
Alternatively, booking well in advance can also secure deals. Some travel firms offer early booking codes that save up to £100 per couple or include an extra week for free. More advice is available on the MSE website.
