M&S gives free chocolate to 1 million Sparks members on Tuesday
M&S gives free chocolate to 1 million Sparks members

Marks and Spencer has confirmed it will be giving away free chocolate bars to one million customers this Tuesday. The sweet giveaway is being awarded to select loyal customers who are part of the retailer’s Sparks rewards programme.

M&S said select customers will today (August 4) find an offer of a free ‘Sparks Bar’ waiting for them in the M&S app, with the offer forming part of Sparks Tuesdays. The retro-inspired chocolate bars, which launch in M&S stores in July, are inspired by the original St Michael archive designs and comprise a decadent combination of creamy milk chocolate, soft nougat and caramel.

How to claim the free chocolate

To claim the free chocolate bar, Sparks rewards customers simply need to visit Sparks in the M&S app and activate the offer before redeeming it. Once activated, customers can then pick up a Sparks bar in an M&S store and scan their Sparks card at the till.

M&S said the offer will remain valid for two weeks, giving shoppers plenty of time to visit their nearest Foodhall and claim their free treat. New offers will launch for all 24 million Sparks members every week as part of Sparks Tuesdays, where customers can earn money into their Sparks wallet.

Retro chocolate bars return

An M&S Sparks spokesperson said: “What better way to make this Tuesday a little sweeter than with free chocolate? We’re surprising one million of our loyal Sparks customers with a Sparks bar which is one of our retro-inspired products, complete with its original St Michael packaging.

“It’s all part of Sparks Tuesdays, bringing our Sparks members fresh offers and more reasons to shop their favourites every week.”

Last month, M&S brought four chocolate bars from the 80s back into Foodhalls, all wrapped in original St Michael packaging designs. The new retro range includes chewy nougat and soft caramel in Sparks, nougat, peanut and caramel in Jet, biscuit and caramel in Now! and smooth coconut in Coconut Grove.

M&S said each bar takes inspiration from the flavours and textures that made the originals so memorable and that sense of nostalgia carries right through to the packaging. The launch comes following the return of the Take 4 four-finger wafer bar that arrived back on shelves last winter and with one in five Brits saying chocolate is the food they would most like to bring back from childhood, M&S Food has now brought back four more retro classics to stores.

An M&S Food spokesperson said: “After the brilliant response to the return of Take 4 last year, we wanted to dig a little deeper into our archives and revisit more of the chocolate bars customers loved the first time around.

“With their original St Michael packaging designs and flavours inspired by the much-loved bars of the 80s, Jet, Sparks, Now! and Coconut Grove are a delicious nod to the past - giving some customers the chance to rediscover an old favourite and others the joy of trying them for the very first time.”
