McDonald's has confirmed it will not run its Monopoly promotion this autumn, bringing an end to a 20-year deal first launched in 2005. The fast food chain's spokesperson told Sky News the promotion will not feature in 2026, prompting fans to describe the announcement as 'the worst day of my life'.
How the promotion worked
During the promotion, customers could peel off stickers from selected products, with designs themed like squares on the Monopoly board. Prizes ranged from free desserts to £100,000 in cash, cars, and electronics. To win bigger prizes, players had to collect corresponding stickers of the same colour, similar to the board game where players purchase three streets of the same colour to build a property empire.
Fans react on social media
Fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment. One person posted on X: “Rest in peace McDonalds Monopoly, it was a good run.” Another said: “McDonald’s Monopoly has stopped. What is there to live for these days.” A third tweeted: “Just found out McDonald’s aren’t doing Monopoly this year. This might be the worst day of my life.”
New offer for app users
While Monopoly is no more, McDonald's has introduced a new deal for customers. From September 8, app users can claim a free flat white, latte, cappuccino, white coffee, americano, double or single espresso every week this month.
