Martin Lewis: Free Apple TV worth £90 with Barclays Platinum card trick
Martin Lewis: Free Apple TV with Barclays Platinum card trick

Martin Lewis has revealed a trick to getting Apple TV free for an entire year. The Money Saving Expert included the “easy hack” in his weekly Money Tips email.

All Brits have to do is sign up for a fee-free credit card with Barclays Platinum. All accepted cardholders who don’t already have a Barclaycard (and haven’t in the last six months) will get a free year's subscription to Apple TV, worth £90 a year.

How to claim the free Apple TV subscription

MoneySavingExpert.com has an eligibility calculator to see if you’ll be accepted by Barclays. After you’ve been accepted, you’ll receive an email with a code for your free Apple TV subscription.

The website said that the card is secondary to the deal for them, saying: “Of course, it wants you to then use the card, but you don't need to - you can just do nothing or cancel the card after you've redeemed your code.”

Important details for existing Apple TV users

If you already have Apple TV, you'd need to cancel your subscription and wait before redeeming the new 12 months - either until the end of the month if paid monthly, or the year if paid annually.

The Barclays Platinum credit card also allows for shifting debt on existing cards to the account for 36 months at 0%, with a 3.15% fee. After, it has 24.9% rep APR.

Other banking deals

Another major bank has launched a major new deal for switching to one of its current accounts. Santander’s new offer is the highest-paying on the market, with a £240 bonus for new customers.

The bank is inviting Brits to open a Current Account. To be eligible to snap up the £240 switcher offer, customers must submit a switch request via the Current Account Switch Service on or after September 1, and before the switcher offer is withdrawn.

Then, they must complete the full switch within 60 days of the initial switch request, including closing their external account. Pay in at least £1,500 to their eligible Santander account within 60 days of the initial switch request, which can be done through one or more payments. Set up at least two active household direct debits within 60 days of the initial switch request and fund a Santander Regular Saver account held in their own name with at least £200 within 60 days of requesting the switch.
