Marmions Brasserie, a popular restaurant in the Scottish Borders, has entered voluntary liquidation. A public Gazette notice to wind up Marmions (Scotland) Company Ltd was published on August 7, 2026, with liquidators appointed the same day.
Liquidators appointed
Kenneth Robert Craig and Kevin Mapstone of BTG Begbies Traynor were appointed as joint liquidators. The company's registered address has since changed to the liquidators' address at River Court, 5 West Victoria Dock Road, Dundee.
The Gazette notice stated that at a general meeting held on August 3, 2026, resolutions were passed to wind up the company voluntarily and appoint the liquidators to act jointly and severally.
Restaurant's history
Marmions Brasserie, located at 5 Buccleuch Street in Melrose near Melrose Abbey, was established in the early 2000s. It won the Scottish Borders Eating Out Awards' 'Best Newcomer 2008' and 'Best Informal Lunch 2008' and was named one of the Scottish Borders' favourite places to eat, drink and relax.
As of writing, no official statement has been provided by Marmions Brasserie. The Daily Record has contacted the restaurant for comment. The Companies House page notes that documents following the 'extraordinary resolution to wind' are being processed, which usually follow 10 days after the appointment of liquidators.
Other restaurant liquidations
Marmions is not the only Scottish restaurant to have liquidators appointed recently. Last month, Cafe Gandolfi in Glasgow appointed Colin Murdoch of Murray Stewart Fraser Limited as interim liquidator on May 7, 2026. However, it was confirmed that the 47-year-old establishment would not close and would remain trading, with ownership transferred from Cafe Gandolfi Ltd to CG2026 Ltd.
Additionally, several Beefeater and Brewers Fayre branches across Scotland are set to close as part of a restructuring plan by owner Whitbread PLC, which announced a five-year strategy to exit the restaurant business and convert some outlets into Premier Inn rooms.
