Malibu Suncream Maker, Travel Agent and Bike Shop Enter Administration
Malibu Suncream Maker, Travel Agent and Bike Shop in Administration

Three well-known UK businesses have entered administration this week: Malibu Health Products Limited, the maker of Malibu suncream; Wroxham Travel, a Norfolk-based independent travel agency; and J's Cycle Shack, a sports retailer. Malibu Health Products has already secured a rescue deal, while the other two firms have ceased trading.

Administration occurs when a company is unable to settle its debts, a situation known as insolvency. An administrator from a qualified accountancy practice takes control of the firm until a new owner can be found, and plans are developed to restructure the business. The process can take several months, and a company may be put into liquidation and shut down if there is no way to generate more cash.

Malibu Health Products Rescue Deal

Malibu Health Products, which had traded successfully for 27 years, entered administration on October 15, with Marco Piacquadio and Rachel Ennis of FTS Recovery Limited appointed as administrators. Its products, including sun lotion and tanning oils, were stocked by major UK retailers such as Morrisons, Boots, The Range, Home Bargains, TK Maxx, Savers and Poundstretcher.

The administrators said a fire hit the company's trading and manufacturing warehouse on August 11, reducing vital stock, raw materials, and specialised machinery. A rescue deal has been secured, with the sale of the goodwill of the business transferred to a new business operated by the director on the date of the administrators' appointment.

All nine head office staff are transferring to the new company with their contracts, pay, and legal workplace protections remaining intact. A spokesperson for FTS Recovery said: "All manufacturing jobs (numbering around 30) that are employed by a separate company within the group have been unaffected by the administration and the transfer."

Wroxham Travel Ceases Trading

Wroxham Travel, which opened in 1987, has closed after entering administration. The firm sold customers European holidays to countries like Greece, Portugal, Italy and Spain, as well as more exotic destinations such as Bali, Barbados, Thailand and Mauritius. It had two offices, one in Hoveton and one in Aylsham, both in Norfolk.

The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has described the development as a "financial failure". In a statement, ABTA said: "We are sorry to inform you that Wroxham Travel has ceased trading with effect from 30 October 2026. We are now treating this as a financial failure. If you had booked travel arrangements with Wroxham Travel, you should follow the advice set out below."

ABTA advised customers who booked through Wroxham Travel to contact the credit control department of their tour operator or other principal travel business, as named on their paperwork or ATOL certificate. The statement added: "Your booking should continue as normal, and they will be your direct point of contact. Please ensure that you have all your documentation with you, as they may require information from it to assist you."

J's Cycle Shack Collapses After 12 Years

J's Cycle Shack, which had locations in Wakefield, Leeds and Epworth as well as an online store, has collapsed into administration after 12 years in business. The business was founded by James Wagner in 2014, starting as a small local bike shop and growing to four stores and showrooms around the country.

The stores specialise in bikes, repairs, cycling gear and other services, while the online store also stocked running gear, nutrition supplements, trainers and more. Currently, the stores in Wakefield, Leeds and Epworth are showing as 'temporarily closed' on Google, and the website features a message saying: "We are sorry that we're currently unavailable but, fear not, we'll be back soon."
