After cooking on a random collection of cheap pans for years, I finally tried the stainless steel cookware that professional chefs swear by. The 5-piece set from Made In Cookware is currently on sale, dropping from £377 to £309.
What’s in the set?
The set includes a 25cm stainless-steel frying pan, a 1.9L stainless-steel saucepan with lid and a 2.8L stainless-steel saucepan with lid. From the moment I opened the boxes, the quality was obvious compared with the everyday pans in supermarket aisles – heavy, pristine and almost too good to use.
The pans are made from 5-ply stainless steel, designed to heat quickly and evenly while limiting hot spots where food can burn. That proved true in testing: they need less heat on the hob than my old pans, and the handles stay cool.
How do the pans perform?
The cool handles are especially handy – otherwise I’d probably burn myself. The set works with gas, electric and induction hobs, and it looks stunning on the stove. Once you’ve mastered pre-heating the pan and adding the right amount of oil, the food tastes great.
For home cooks, the five-piece set makes an excellent starter kit. It’s perfect for couples or people living alone: the frying pan is ideal for eggs or steak, while the saucepans are the right size for pasta in one and a sauce in the other.
Other sets and alternatives
If you need more pieces, Made In Cookware also has 6, 10 and 13-piece sets on offer. The 6-piece set is £499 down from £566, the 10-piece set is £699 down from £834, and the 13-piece set is £979 down from £1,201.
For a tighter budget, Tefal’s Ingenio Simplicity 22-Piece Pan Set is priced at £139.99, reduced from £375. According to the brand, the stackable pans save 50% of space compared with standard cookware. Even more affordable is Salter’s Timeless 5-piece set at £65 from Argos, which includes three saucepans, one frying pan and a milk pan.
Warranty and customer reviews
Made In Cookware backs the set with a lifetime warranty. The brand has over 110,000 verified reviews to date, with most customers awarding five stars. One reviewer said: “After receiving this product, at least 95% of all my meals have been prepared in it. It’s been extremely fun and rewarding to cook with.”
Another wrote: “Didn’t realise what I have been missing by not using quality cookware, really enjoying cooking with my Made In.” A third added: “Made In pans are an investment, but the quality is excellent and I expect these will last a lifetime. I got the limited edition with brass handles, which add beauty and warmth to the design.”
Not everyone is completely satisfied – one customer noted that while they “love the look and feel” of the pan, they found it “difficult to clean”. The pans are also quite heavy, which feels premium but could be a problem for anyone who struggles to lift hefty items.
The Made In Cookware 5-piece stainless steel set is currently on sale for £309.
