Lidl has been named the cheapest supermarket for Halloween sweets this year, with an average price of £8.51 per kilogram, according to new research by finance experts at Fast Loan UK.
The study compared prices per kilogram of sweets and chocolate products from nine of the UK's biggest supermarkets to identify where shoppers could get the most for their money ahead of October 31.
Asda and Aldi follow closely
Asda came second with an average price of £8.61 per kilogram, just 10p more than Lidl. Aldi took third place with an average of £11.03 per kilogram, although only three products were included in its online sample, with prices ranging from £6 to £16.60 per kilogram.
At the other end of the rankings, M&S had the highest average price at £16.26 per kilogram, though the research included only a small selection of its products.
Tips for saving on treats
Prices were checked on October 7, 2026, and the number and range of products included varied between retailers. Joe Brunt, a Consumer Finance Expert at Fast Loan UK, said shoppers could avoid overspending by planning ahead.
He said: "With costumes, decorations and treats to buy, the cost of Halloween can quickly add up. Setting a budget for sweets and chocolates before you shop can help you avoid spending more than you intended."
He added: "Look beyond the price on the front of the bag and compare the cost per 100g or kilogram. A bag that looks cheaper may contain much less, while a larger pack isn’t automatically better value."
"For trick-or-treating, the number of individually wrapped treats matters too. Two bags of the same weight could contain very different numbers of pieces, so check the pack count where it’s available and think about how many visitors you expect."
"Compare own-brand options with branded favourites, and only buy multibuy offers if you need the extra packs. Buying more than you’ll use can wipe out the savings, even when the offer looks tempting."
