The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an urgent recall for thousands of packets of Lay's Sour Cream & Dill crisps sold at Home Bargains, after the product was found to contain undeclared milk and wheat.
The allergens are not listed on the packaging, meaning the crisps could pose a serious health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, wheat or gluten, as well as people with coeliac disease.
In its recall notice, the FSA said: "The product contains milk and wheat (gluten), making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, wheat or gluten, or with coeliac disease."
What shoppers should do
Customers have been told "not to consume" the crisps. Instead, anyone who has bought the product should return it to their nearest Home Bargains store, where they can receive a full refund.
The affected crisps include batches with best before dates up to and including October 31, 2026. Customers who require more information have been advised to contact the Home Bargains customer support team.
Allergy groups alerted
The FSA said it has also instructed ASR Solutions Ltd to notify relevant allergy support organisations so they can alert their members about the recall. Home Bargains apologised for any "inconvenience caused".
Previous allergen recall
The latest recall follows another allergen-related product withdrawal last month, when Doritos Tortilla Chips Chilli Heatwave were removed from sale after undeclared milk was found in the product. Those crisps, which were stocked by several major retailers including Tesco, were recalled because they could pose a health risk to people with a milk allergy.
