Katie Price has made it clear she will not pay the £140,000 required to secure her husband Lee Andrews' release from a Dubai prison, nor will she start an online fundraiser to raise the money. Lee remains incarcerated in Dubai's Al Awir prison, despite earlier reports that he was due to be released last week.
Lee Andrews' Imprisonment
The couple married in January, just two weeks after meeting. Since then, Lee has faced multiple accusations of being a conman. His situation worsened when he failed to board a flight to the UK for a planned joint interview on Good Morning Britain. After two weeks of speculation, Katie revealed she had spoken to Lee, who was behind bars the entire time. The cost to secure his release is substantial, but Katie has refused to use her own money.
Katie's Stance
Katie insists that Lee must handle his own legal matters. In an interview with The Sun, she stated, 'The only way Lee will get out of prison is he has to sort himself out himself. If not, he'll be in prison. I'm not here to pay anything for anyone. There's nothing I can do. I've got my own life, even though he's part of my life.' She also expressed a need for answers from Lee, saying, 'I need answers, and if I don't like the answers, I'll be gone. I'm 48. I don't need to waste my time.'
Allegations and Conditions
Lee initially claimed he was arrested for espionage, but it was later reported to be a private civil matter. Despite the grim conditions in Al Awir prison, Lee has told Katie that his life behind bars is not as bad as expected, even claiming to have befriended Daniel Kinahan, a notorious alleged criminal arrested in Dubai. Katie has warned fans not to treat her as a 'mug,' stating she is 'protected' and 'taking notes.' She added, 'There is no way he would mess with me, and in a way I feel protected because I have the nation looking out for me.'
Katie reaffirmed that she will walk away if Lee does not provide satisfactory answers. 'I need answers, and if I don't like the answers, I'll be gone,' she said. 'We get along really well and he's so intelligent. As much as I want to listen to the women [his exes] and I'm really open-minded about it, I know what a good woman I am.'
