Joe Swash: Money-Savvy Partners Are 'More of a Catch'
Joe Swash: Being Money-Savvy Makes You 'More of a Catch'

Forget flashy gestures or stunning looks – it appears the route to a Brit's heart goes directly through their bank balance. According to Joe Swash, counting your pennies could make you "more of a catch."

Money-Savvy Qualities Rank High

New research from EDF Energy shows that understanding how to cut household bills is among the top qualities more than two-thirds (67%) of Brits seek in a partner – placing it ahead of physical attractiveness (65%), culinary skills (54%) and shared interests in music or pastimes (44%).

Indeed, being money-savvy is officially experiencing a moment, with over half (53%) declaring it's a more crucial characteristic in a partner now than it was 5 years ago. The qualities Brits find most appealing include discovering methods to slash expenses without sacrificing the things they love (44%), understanding when and how to implement small adjustments that cut costs (35%) and capitalising on loyalty programmes and perks (23%).

Joe Swash's Take on Attractiveness

TV Presenter Joe Swash said: "Forget six-packs and pearly whites – apparently, the real heartthrob these days is the person who knows when's the best time to whack the dishwasher on to earn rewards."

"And the biggest flex is knowing how to make the most of the benefits and perks you can get for free. Turns out those little money-saving wins might not just be good for your everyday life – they could make you more of a catch, too!"

EDF's Flextras Loyalty Scheme

The study comes after EDF launched its new loyalty scheme, Flextras, which provides customers with rewards for being more adaptable with their electricity usage, plus exclusive deals and advantages. When signing up, customers automatically get four hours of complimentary electricity as a welcome present.

To date, EDF has given away nearly 450,000 hours of free electricity, which customers can access in October. And it appears the concept of rewarding clever behaviour is proving popular, with nearly half (43%) of Brits confessing that if their partner consistently used such loyalty programmes, they would regard them as practical, while 39% would view their other half as a shrewd shopper.

Be More Flexy Campaign

To mark the launch of their brand new Flextras loyalty programme, EDF is urging the nation to 'Be More Flexy', an irresistible mix of practicality and money-saving skills that showcase a person's flex appeal. Flex icon Joe has discovered that being a good catch involves more than just cheeky chappy charm – it requires a bit of domestic know-how too. Now, he's putting his newfound skills into action, demonstrating how being more flexy and shifting electricity use can help cut bills and earn rewards.

Joe Souto, Director of Retail at EDF added: "Flextras is packed with perks, giving customers extra rewards for sticking with EDF and even more for being flexible with their electricity use. Let's be honest, remembering anniversaries and making a decent cup of tea will always help your cause. But being smart with your energy isn't a bad look either. So, whether you're hoping to earn some serious brownie points at home or just fancy getting more for your money, there's never been a better excuse to join Flextras."
