An insider has claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's finances "don't add up" and that their return to the UK is being "sponsored" by an unknown benefactor. The couple have reportedly incurred significant expenses during their relocation, despite speculation about their financial situation.
Insider claims major expenses
A source told Woman's Day that the pair have already spent heavily as part of the move. "Meghan, 45, and Harry, 41, are running on a very limited budget so it’s a shock to see them blowing $120k on a private jet using the dogs as an excuse," the insider said.
The source added: "The kids' schooling alone is over $60k a year and the house they’re renting is around $75k a month and that’s without the renovations Meghan’s planning." These costs come alongside reportedly millions in legal fees Harry faces after losing his case against Associated Newspapers Limited.
Speculation over financial backing
The insider told the publication there is "no doubt" somebody is financially backing the Sussexes, though it is not publicly known who. They explained: "Harry and Meghan are paranoid about anyone trying to claim they’re bagging freebies but there’s no doubt someone’s helping them out. Whether it’s the King or Harry’s Uncle Charlie, the math doesn’t add up unless they have some kind of sponsor."
The source added that if the couple are "somehow" not receiving help, it would prove they are "going all in" on the move to the UK.
Income concerns and arrival
Another source told RadarOnline that the Duke and Duchess "aren't broke" but face massive bills and limited income. They said: "Their lifestyle costs an extraordinary amount to maintain, and adding another substantial home in Britain creates another layer of expense at a time when some of the enormous deals they signed after leaving royal life are no longer producing the same income."
The Sussexes' US$100 million Netflix deal ended in 2025, with RadarOnline reporting the couple "may ultimately have retained roughly US$10 million to US$15 million." Harry and Meghan arrived in the UK with their children Archie and Lilibet last week, landing via private jet at Birmingham Airport before heading to the Cotswolds.
