Halifax to close 14 branches in September as Lloyds rebrand confirmed

Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed that 14 Halifax branches will close in September, as part of wider changes that will see the Halifax name phased out and most remaining branches rebranded to Lloyds.

The group, which owns Halifax, Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland, said the changes reflect the shift by customers towards online and mobile banking, with fewer people visiting branches for financial services.

Rebranding and branch changes

The vast majority of Halifax branches will either be rebranded to Lloyds or be served by an existing Lloyds branch in the same community, according to the group.

A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said: "There are no changes to previously announced plans for our branches.

"The vast majority of Halifax branches will either rebrand to Lloyds, or you'll be served by an existing Lloyds branch in that community. If there are any changes to your branch, we'll let you know directly. You can also check your local branch page for the latest information."

Closure review process

The bank said it creates two Closing Branch Review documents to explain why a branch is closing. Part 1, which outlines how the decision was made, is available when customers are told about the closure. Part 2, which summarises feedback from conversations with the local community, is available two weeks before the branch closes.

The bank said it "always looks to understand the impact" on affected customers, including access to banking services. Community Bankers may visit an area after a branch closes, and a Banking Hub or Deposit Service could be set up nearby.

It added: "We are committed to following the requirements of the Financial Conduct Authority - 'FG 22/6: Branch and ATM closures or conversions."
