Halifax to close 14 branches in September amid Lloyds rebrand

Halifax is set to close 14 UK branches in September as part of wider changes to the Lloyds Banking Group branch network. The move comes as more customers shift towards online and mobile banking and visit branches for financial activities less often.

Lloyds Banking Group, which owns Halifax, Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland, confirmed that the wider changes also include phasing out the Halifax name and rebranding branches to Lloyds.

A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said: "There are no changes to previously announced plans for our branches."

"The vast majority of Halifax branches will either rebrand to Lloyds, or you'll be served by an existing Lloyds branch in that community. If there are any changes to your branch, we’ll let you know directly. You can also check your local branch page for the latest information."

Support for affected communities

The bank also reassured customers that it "always looks to understand the impact" on those affected, including access to banking services, Birmingham Live reports.

It explained that Community Bankers may visit an area after it loses a bank branch. A Banking Hub or Deposit Service could be set up in a nearby location.

"We are committed to following the requirements of the Financial Conduct Authority – 'FG 22/6: Branch and ATM closures or conversions," it added.
