Halifax Closing 13 Branches in September - Full List

Halifax will close 13 branches in September 2026 as part of a wider Lloyds Banking Group closure programme. The group, which owns Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and Halifax, announced 79 new closures on Wednesday, June 10, bringing the total to at least 247 branches set to shut in 2026 and 2027.

The September closures follow 26 Halifax branches already shut in June. The bank said decisions are "based on a range of factors, including how customers are choosing to bank and the availability of nearby services".

Shift to Digital Banking

Mobile banking use has surged in recent years, with around 87% of UK adults now using at least one form of digital banking, according to recent figures. This has coincided with rising costs of running a high street unit, such as energy bills, making it financially unviable for many operators to keep sites open.

However, the shift to digital banking has raised concerns. Critics said that bank closures will impact the most vulnerable, who lack access to technology or may not be able to travel farther to other bank locations.

Alternative Services

Customers have been encouraged to access in-person banking services at its other brands, including Lloyds and Bank of Scotland, where they can deposit cash, make withdrawals and pay in cheques. Account holders can also use banking hubs, which are shared spaces run by the Post Office, where customers of multiple banks can deposit and withdraw cash, get face-to-face support and manage their accounts.

A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group said: "The way people are banking has changed, with over 21 million customers choosing our apps to manage their money. We're providing more choice than ever before, bringing together the best in digital convenience with our people.

"Alongside our app, our customers can use any Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland branch, the Post Office or Banking Hubs for their everyday banking, and deposit cash at over 30,000 PayPoint locations."
