Lloyds Bank and Halifax are set to close a combined total of eight branches next week, continuing the ongoing wave of physical bank branch closures across the UK. The move comes as more customers turn to online and digital banking options.
Why Branches Are Closing
Lloyds Banking Group, which includes Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland, said the way its customers choose to bank is constantly changing, which can make it necessary to close or relocate branches. The bank said: “When making changes to our branch network, we always look to understand the impact on our customers – including how they continue to access banking services.”
October will see a total of 26 branches closed by the two banks, starting with the Lloyds branch in Rochdale, located at 58 Yorkshire Street. This month's closures are expected to continue through to October 21.
Alternative Banking Options
While the banking group is making major changes to its branch network, it added that customers have other ways to access its services. A Lloyds spokesperson previously told MoneyWeek: “With access to one of the biggest branch networks in the UK, alongside local banking options like our Community Bankers, the Post Office, PayPoint, plus our leading apps and 24/7 messaging service, we offer our customers more choice and convenience than ever before.”
Customers with Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland can also use branches across the three brands for everyday banking.
