Greer Denies Tariff Price Hikes for American Families

US Trade Representative Greer insisted that American families have not seen price increases as a result of Donald Trump's sweeping tariff policy during a heated exchange with Senator Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat from Massachusetts.

Core Inflation Data Cited

“No,” the US trade representative said. “Core inflation fell to 2.6 percent year on year, much better than in January 2025.” While core inflation excludes food and energy, overall inflation is actually around 0.5% higher than it was when Trump took office.

Warren's Counterargument

Warren pushed back, noting that an estimate produced by Democrats, based on the Congressional Budget Office and the Treasury Department's own numbers, shows that families are paying an average of $1,700 more in tariff costs since Trump's return to office.
