Ghd Speed Hair Dryer Review: My Other Styling Tools Are Now Redundant

Ghd has launched a new hair tool, the ghd speed hair dryer, building on 25 years of expertise. The brand's previous model, the helios, was used by celebrities like Lily James and Zendaya. The new dryer features halo technology, which surrounds a central hot air stream with cooler airflow to reduce scalp temperatures, promising high-speed performance without excessive heat.

I tested the dryer at home on medium-length straight hair, prepped with heat protection and styling products. The device is quiet and lightweight at 602g, yet powerful. The airflow felt noticeably cooler on the scalp and hands compared to other dryers, including Dyson and ghd helios. Drying time was about 30 minutes for a bouncy finish, similar to the Dyson airwrap, but could be reduced to 10 minutes for straight styles.

The halo technology proved beneficial for styling front sections, allowing closer access to the roots for more volume without flatness. The cooler outer shell enabled comfortable handling, and a lock feature inside the handle prevents accidental setting changes, remembering preferences for next use.

I achieved a salon-worthy finish more easily than with traditional dryers. While the helios is excellent for sleek strands, the speed dryer makes creating voluminous styles simpler due to its cool-touch shell and halo technology. The ability to hold the dryer closer to roots and reposition grip without burning hands is a genuine advantage, and my flicked ends held well without a scorched hair smell.

Priced at over £100 more than the helios, the speed dryer could streamline your toolkit by replacing hot brushes or curlers. Overall, it is a worthwhile investment for those seeking efficient, professional results at home.
