Elderly Aids Ltd, a company selling mobility aids, has been fined £150,000 by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) for bombarding elderly people with nuisance calls.
Investigation findings
The ICO found that the company made over 1.2 million calls to people on the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) between January and July 2025. The TPS is a register of numbers that have opted out of receiving unsolicited sales calls.
Despite the complaints, the company continued to call people who had explicitly asked not to be contacted. The ICO said that the calls caused distress and anxiety, particularly to vulnerable elderly individuals.
Company response
Elderly Aids Ltd did not respond to the ICO's investigation and has since gone into liquidation. The fine will not be paid, but the ICO said it serves as a warning to other companies that breach regulations.
Andy Curry, head of investigations at the ICO, said: "This fine sends a clear message that we will not hesitate to take action against companies that flout the law and cause harm to vulnerable people."
