A TikTok video showing an elderly DoorDash delivery driver has ignited a debate about working conditions in the United States, leading to a fundraising campaign that has raised over £280,000.
The video, posted by user Anabelle Grace Stephens on Wednesday, captured the driver, identified as “Kerry,” delivering food to her home. Stephens tipped him $30 for a $21 order and later said she contacted DoorDash to express her appreciation.
In a follow-up video, Stephens announced she had reached out to Kerry’s son, who described his father as a private man who has worked his entire life and faced many hardships. She is now working to set up a meeting with Kerry and hopes to help him retire.
Stephens launched a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of raising funds for Kerry. As of Friday, the fundraiser had amassed over £280,000 from thousands of donors, far exceeding initial expectations.
The incident has sparked wider discussions about the reliance of elderly people on gig economy jobs and the need for better worker protections. DoorDash has not publicly commented on the matter.
