Financial knowhow has edged ahead of good looks as one of the most attractive qualities in a partner, according to new research. More than two-thirds (67%) of Brits said knowing how to save on household bills is among the top qualities they look for, ahead of physical attraction (65%).

The Flextras survey by EDF also found that taking care of household admin boosts appeal, with 50% becoming more attracted to their partner if they manage that responsibility. Money habits appear to matter for longer-term relationships too, as almost three-quarters (73%) said being with someone who helps manage their finances makes them feel more secure about their future together.
EDF launches Flextras
The findings come as EDF launches Flextras, a loyalty programme rewarding customers for being flexible about when they use electricity, alongside other benefits and exclusive offers. Customers receive four hours of free electricity when they sign up, and EDF says it has so far provided almost 450,000 hours of free electricity for October use.
TV presenter Joe Swash has teamed up with EDF for the launch, encouraging people to 'Be More Flexy' by making small changes to how and when they use electricity to access rewards. Joe said: 'Forget six-packs and pearly whites – apparently, the real heartthrob these days is the person who knows when’s the best time to whack the dishwasher on to earn rewards.'
Joe Souto, Director of Retail at EDF, added: 'Flextras is packed with perks, giving customers extra rewards for sticking with EDF and even more for being flexible with their electricity use.'
Top qualities in a partner
The survey lists the qualities Brits look for in a partner, with loyalty and humour topping the chart at 85% each, followed by good communication (81%), being fun and spontaneous (74%), and being playful (70%). Knowing how to save money on bills (67%), being financially savvy (66%), and being organised (65%) rank above physical attractiveness (65%), with being open to having a pet at 59%.
