A TikTok video has ignited a fierce debate over the correct nickname for Sainsbury's, with Brits divided between 'Sainos' and 'Sainsbos'. The supermarket itself has confirmed there is no official answer, leaving the public to decide.
The debate began when TikTok user Josie, posting as @jozzeeeyyyy, made a video declaring: 'I'm here for one thing and that's just to confirm that Sainsbury's for short is Sainos, right everybody? Yeah? That's what I thought.' She said she had been arguing with people about it all week and had heard some 'heinous' alternatives, adding she was 'happy to start beef' over the topic.
Over 95,000 views and hundreds of comments
Josie's video has been watched more than 95,000 times, with hundreds of people commenting. Dozens backed 'Sainos', including Sophie Robinson, who said 'Sainos is correct', and @scaprilbook, who wrote: 'Sainos is the only right way, my mother calls it SAINSO, absolutely ghastly if you ask me.'
Others suggested 'Sainsbos' or 'Sainsbo's'. @wideawakewesley posted: 'Sainsbos… and I work for them, so it's official.' @kellykatxx said: 'It's Sainsbo's hun, or not shortened.'
Alternative nicknames and official response
Further suggestions included 'Sainy-b's', 'Sainos when normal size' and 'Big Sains' for larger stores, plus 'Sainsbubbles', 'Sainsbog', 'just Sains', 'The Orange One', 'Sainzzers', 'Sazzers', 'Sainsbugs', and 'Brees'. Aldi joked it should be 'say no'. Some, like @aaronsayscomedy, argued Sainsbury's is 'not cool enough to deserve a colloquialism'.
Asked to settle the dispute, a Sainsbury's spokesperson told Metro: 'Like all good debates, this one may never truly be settled. While there's no official nickname for Sainsbury's, we're pleased to know we're on a nickname basis with so many shoppers, whether they're Team Sainos or Team Sainsbos. As for which one deserves the crown, we'll leave that to the public to decide!'
