B&Q has issued a recall for its White 9 inch Table Fan after identifying a potential safety issue that could lead to electric shock or fire. The Office for Product Safety and Standards has published a recall notice for the product.
Safety Warning Issued
The Office for Product Safety and Standards stated: "The product presents a risk of electric shock and fire as there is a fault within the oscillation mechanism that can damage internal wiring. The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016."
Customers who have purchased the fan are advised to stop using it immediately and return it to their nearest B&Q store for a full refund.
Recall Details
In its recall announcement, B&Q said: "A potential safety issue has been identified in relation to the White 9 Inch Table Fan sold between March 2026 and July 2026. In some cases, an electrical component may overheat leading to a fire or electric shock risk. If you think you have this product, please stop using it immediately and return to your nearest B&Q store for a refund."
The recall comes as many Brits are using fans to cope with soaring temperatures.
Company Performance Context
Earlier in May, B&Q's parent company Kingfisher reported a dip in sales, attributing it to the delayed onset of spring weather. Total sales declined by 0.9% to £3.3 billion between February and April compared with the same period last year. In the UK and Ireland, B&Q sales fell by 4.1%, while Screwfix saw sales rise by 4.1%.
Kingfisher chief executive Thierry Garnier described it as a "resilient start to the year" while remaining "mindful of the consumer environment".
