B&Q has issued an urgent recall for its White 9 Inch Table Fan, warning customers to stop using the appliance immediately due to a potential fire and electric shock risk. The home improvement retailer identified a safety issue with the fan, which was sold in stores between March and July 2026.
Safety Notice and Refund
In a notice regarding the 30W fan, B&Q stated: "A potential safety issue has been identified in relation to the White 9 Inch Table Fan sold between March 2026 and July 2026. In some cases, an electrical component may overheat leading to a fire or electric shock risk."
The company advised: "If you think you have this product, please stop using it immediately and return to your nearest B&Q store for a refund." The fans, made in China, were sold under the Kingfisher brand.
Regulator Warning
The Office for Products and Safety Standards, the UK's national regulator for consumer products, also issued a notice about the faulty product. The regulator stated: "The product presents a risk of electric shock and fire as there is a fault within the oscillation mechanism that can damage internal wiring." It added that the product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.
Heatwave Context
The recall comes as England and Wales continue to experience scorching temperatures, with drought conditions affecting large parts of the country. Last week, drought was declared across seven areas in England, including London, East Anglia, and the West Midlands. In Wales, July was recorded as the driest since records began 190 years ago, with only 8 per cent of the long-term average rainfall.
