Bookings are now open for a £185 five-course Christmas dinner at Branches, the Osborne Road restaurant in Jesmond, Newcastle, where football legend Alan Shearer celebrated with his family a few Christmases ago.

For £185 for adults and £100 for children, diners can choose from starters including wild mushroom & truffle veloute, lobster & king prawn cocktail and rich duck liver pate. Mains feature traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings, slow cooked sirloin of beef and root vegetable tart. Desserts include Christmas pudding, winter berry cheesecake, rich double chocolate brownie and a selection of cheeses.
