Aldi's Specially Selected 24 Month Matured Christmas Pudding 800g has been named the best Christmas pudding to buy from UK supermarkets in Good Housekeeping's 2026 festive taste test. The own-brand product scored 85 out of 100, beating 25 other classic and flavoured puddings in a blind tasting.
How the test worked
The Good Housekeeping Institute tested 26 Christmas puddings for 2026 with the help of a panel. Each pudding was tasted blind to avoid bias and cooked according to the packet instructions.
Good Housekeeping praised the Aldi pudding for its rich and deep flavour, saying: "Packed with plump vine fruit and citrus peel, it impressed our testers with its warming spice, juicy fruit and crunchy almonds." The review added: "Don't forget a generous dollop of brandy cream on the side."
Price and ranking
The winning pudding costs £6.99, making it among the cheapest of the supermarket premium options. It is currently discounted from its original price of £7.99.
In second place was Bettys Large Classic Christmas Pudding 800g, which costs more than £27. The top three was completed by Waitrose No.1 12 Month Matured Christmas Pudding 800g, priced at £11.20.
Aldi's wider success
Christmas pudding was not the only category where Aldi triumphed at Good Housekeeping's taste test. The institute also named Aldi's turkey crown and mince pies as the best available.
Overall, Aldi secured 13 first and second-place results spanning turkey, pigs in blankets, mince pies, cheese and wine. This includes the Specially Selected Roly Poly Whole Turkey (4-5.99kg), Specially Selected All Butter Mince Pies (£1.75, 6pk), Specially Selected Double Wrapped Pigs in Blankets (£2.69, 250g) and Specially Selected Pays d'Auge Camembert (£3.99, 250g).
