Aldi slashes prices on over 200 items including summer essentials

Aldi has announced a new round of price reductions on more than 200 products, covering a wide range of everyday essentials. The discounts apply to fresh and frozen food, cupboard staples, household items, and personal care products, with popular summer staples included in the cuts.

Key reductions on summer favourites

Shoppers can save 50p on selected fresh British beef steaks, including 30 Day Matured British Rump Steak now priced at £4.69, 30 Day Matured British Sirloin Steak at £5.99, and 28 Day Matured British Fillet Steak at £6.79. Aldi has also lowered the price of its Gianni Ice Cream Lollies and Watermelon Fruit Lollies from £1.99 to £1.79, while Ice Cream Cookies are now £1.95.

In the drinks aisle, the New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has been reduced to £6.99, and the Aperini Spritz 4-Pack now costs £5.49. Lacura SPF50+ Sensitive Lotion is also cheaper at £3.29, down from £3.49.

Aldi’s investment in lower prices

So far this year, Aldi has invested over £200 million in price cuts, including £60 million introduced this week. Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said: “Now more than ever, we know that customers are looking to manage their budgets for the weekly shop, which is why we’re constantly reviewing prices across our range. These latest price reductions cover hundreds of everyday products and offer great value without compromising on quality.”

However, the supermarket advises customers to shop around for the best deals, as a price cut does not guarantee the lowest price on the market.

Waitrose also cuts prices

In related news, Waitrose has reduced prices on over 160 own-brand products as part of a £20 million investment. Prices have fallen by an average of 12%, with some items cut by more than 25%. Reductions include staples such as free range eggs, onions, chicken thighs, apples, frozen peas, chickpeas, and chopped tomatoes. Nearly half (47%) of the reductions are on products from the Essential Waitrose range. This marks the ninth round of New Lower Prices since 2023, bringing Waitrose’s total investment to £162.5 million across more than 1,000 products.

Grocery inflation continues to slow

Grocery price inflation eased again this month, with supermarket prices 3.1% higher than a year ago in May, down from 3.8% in April and 4.3% in March, according to figures from Worldpanel by Numerator. Consumers are bracing for potential fallout from the Middle East crisis, but the downward trend in inflation offers some relief.
