A dishwasher tablet left to soak in boiling water for five minutes can melt away stubborn grease from an air fryer basket, according to a cleaning tip shared on social media.
Adrianna Griffin posted on the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook group that dishwasher tablets are the key to tackling stubborn stains on air fryers. She shared a photo of her spotless air fryer basket, writing: "Whoever said using a dishwasher tablet for the air fryer is a lifesaver."
Five-minute soak method
Griffin explained that pieces of food stuck to the tray were impossible to remove with just scrubbing. She added: "Just a five-minute soak with boiling hot water, a rinse and wipe and the job was done. The grease had just melted away."
She noted that she does not own a dishwasher but picked up the tablets cheaply to try the cleaning hacks she had seen on the page.
Why the hack works
The blend of enzymes, alkalis and surfactants found in dishwasher tablets is effective at tackling grease stains, food marks and unpleasant smells. These ingredients can also be used to combat grease, food residue and odours in other areas of the home.
TikTok user Carolina McCauley, who posts home hacks, also recommended the dishwasher tablet method, calling it the "easiest air fryer cleaning hack". Her followers agreed, with one commenting "So smart" and another adding "It looks so easy."
Safety warning
Those trying the method are advised never to place the dishwasher tablet and water directly inside the main appliance of the air fryer, or to submerge the electrical base.
