Barclays Offers £200 Cash Incentive for Current Account Switching

Barclays has become the latest high street bank to offer a cash incentive for customers switching their current accounts, providing £200 to new customers who meet specific criteria. To qualify, customers must open a Barclays current account via the app, sign up for the Blue Rewards scheme at £5 per month, and complete a full switch using the Current Account Switch Service. This includes transferring at least two active direct debits and paying in a minimum of £2,000 within 30 days of account opening.

The Blue Rewards scheme offers perks such as a free Apple TV+ subscription, an MLS season pass, and access to a 4.21% savings account. Barclays' offer joins a competitive market where other banks provide similar incentives: Santander Edge and Club Lloyds each offer £200, First Direct £175, Natwest £150, and Co-op £100. At the top end, Lloyds Premier offers £500 but requires a monthly pay-in of £5,000.

Caitlyn Eastell, Personal Finance Analyst at Moneyfactscompare.co.uk, noted that switching incentives are effective in attracting customers and encouraging them to review their current accounts. However, she warned consumers to consider the long-term value and eligibility criteria, as monthly charges or specific conditions could offset the initial cash bonus.
