Scottish Parents Face Child Benefit Delay Due to Bank Holiday

Some Scottish parents will experience a delay to their Child Benefit payment at the start of August, while others due benefits at the end of the month may receive money earlier than usual because of the summer bank holiday.

Child Benefit Payment Changes in Scotland

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has confirmed that Child Benefit payments due in Scotland on Monday, August 3 will instead be paid on Tuesday, August 4. Payments scheduled for Tuesday, August 4 will be issued on Wednesday, August 5. There is no change for parents in England or Wales.

Early Payments for End of August

HMRC and Social Security Scotland have confirmed that payments due on Monday, August 31 will be made early, on Friday, August 28. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is also expected to follow the same revised schedule. DWP offices and phone lines will be closed on the bank holiday, with payments typically made when services, including Jobcentre Plus offices and webchat support, are available.

Benefits Affected at End of August

Payments expected to be affected include the State Pension, Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Attendance Allowance, Child Benefit, and Social Security Scotland benefits such as Adult Disability Payment (ADP). DWP August Bank Holiday Payment Date Changes

DWP has not yet confirmed any payment date changes but is expected to follow the same revised pattern as HMRC and Social Security Scotland. Payments due on Monday, August 31 will be issued on Friday, August 29. Payments affected include Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, Employment Support Allowance (ESA), Income Support, Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Pension Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), State Pension, and Universal Credit.

HMRC August Bank Holiday Payment Date Changes

Payments due on Monday, August 31 will be issued on Friday, August 29. Payments affected include Child Benefit and Guardian’s Allowance.

Child Benefit Payments Due on August 3 or 4

Payments due Monday, August 3 arrive Tuesday, August 4 (Scotland only). Payments due Tuesday, August 4 arrive Wednesday, August 5 (Scotland only). Full details on the August payment date changes can be found on GOV.UK.

Payments due on Monday, August 31 will be issued on Friday, August 29.
