Paramedics restarted the heart of a nine-year-old boy after a serious two-car collision in Birmingham. The crash occurred on Tuesday, July 29, at around 6pm on Masshouse Lane, Kings Norton.
Emergency Response
An off-duty nurse and police officers performed CPR on the boy, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles. When ambulance crews arrived, they took over and administered advanced life support, successfully restarting his heart.
West Midlands Ambulance Service received multiple 999 calls reporting the collision at the junction of Sisefield Road and Primrose Hill. Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a trauma team, a critical care paramedic, and a Midlands Air Ambulance attended the scene.
Arrests and Injuries
The boy was rushed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital in a critical condition. The driver of his car, a woman, was assessed with non-serious injuries and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Two occupants of the second car, a man and woman, sustained minor injuries and were left in the care of police. West Midlands Police arrested a man and a woman at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
