Muller backs Manzambi for Bayern move
Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller has intervened in Manchester United's transfer pursuit of Switzerland star Johan Manzambi, urging his former club to sign the £43m-rated midfielder. Manzambi, 20, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and impressed at the World Cup with a brace in Switzerland's 4-1 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina.
United have yet to make their first signing of the summer but have agreed a £35m deal plus £3.8m in add-ons for Atalanta midfielder Ederson. However, Manzambi remains a target, with Muller now advising Bayern to act.
Muller's praise and Manzambi's reaction
“He's a good player overall. We've had him on our list for a while now,” Muller told MagentaTV. “For me, he's someone, and now we can make a headline, that FC Bayern should also consider. You can sense his flexibility. You can also sense his carefree attitude. At the same time, you can already see a certain maturity in his actions, in his decision-making, his work ethic.”
Manzambi, who plays for Freiburg, said after his World Cup double: “Honestly, it's incredible, it’s the first brace of my career, and at the World Cup on top of that. Scoring two goals in front of the fans and my family, that's very, very nice. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight.”
Transfer battle looms
United are yet to confirm any signings for next season but have been tracking Manzambi for months. The midfielder's versatility—able to play as a No.6, No.8, or No.10—makes him an attractive prospect. Muller added that Manzambi even wears the No.9 shirt, joking he could be marketed as a striker. With both clubs now interested, a transfer battle could ensue this summer.
