Monzo's Get Paid Early feature saw 750,000 customers claim their salaries ahead of the official payday during the final week of October 2026, with the peak day seeing more than £100m paid out within 15 minutes. The perk, which is free to use, also offers eligible customers the chance to double their salary through the bank's Double Your Pay Day initiative.
How Get Paid Early Works
To use the feature, customers must have their salary paid into a Monzo account via Bacs, the payment system commonly used for Direct Debits and other bank credits. Monzo explains that eligible customers can get their "salary or student loan payment from 4pm one business day early."
For example, if a salary is due on Monday, January 25, 2027, it would be available the previous Friday, January 22. Similarly, if pay is due on December 18, customers can access it on December 17, giving a head start on festive shopping and helping beat the rush of others being paid on the 18th.
October 2026 Usage Data
Monzo, which has 16 million customers including over 15 million personal customers and more than one million business banking customers, shared data with the Mirror on early payment usage. During the final week of October (October 25-31), 750,000 early payments were claimed. Thursday, October 29, was the peak day, with more than 70,000 customers using the feature within the first 15 minutes of it becoming available at 4pm, totalling more than £100m.
Double Your Salary for Free
Monzo's Double Your Pay Day offers 10 lucky customers every month the chance to have their salary doubled. To qualify, customers must be UK residents aged 18 and over, and have their salary paid into a Monzo personal or joint account via Bacs or Faster Payments. Weekly and monthly salaries between £300 and £20,000 count, with winning payments capped at £10,000.
Since its launch in December 2025, Monzo has paid out just over £190k in Double Your Pay Day payouts over the past 11 months. Winners are picked at random on the first working day of each month from all who qualify, with one entry per month. There is no need to opt in manually; customers are automatically eligible as long as their salary is paid into their Monzo account, and they can opt out in the app.
