Man Utd Contract Decisions: Fernandes, Martinez, Shaw, Bayindir
Man Utd's Four Contract Decisions Ahead of 2026/27

Manchester United have four contract decisions to make as Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, and Altay Bayindir head into the final year of their deals. This comes ahead of the 2026/2027 season, which will be Michael Carrick's first full campaign in charge.

Bruno Fernandes

Fernandes broke the Premier League assist record this season, and United chiefs have informed him of their desire for him to stay beyond this summer. United have the option to extend Fernandes' contract by 12 months, so there are currently no plans to offer the captain a new deal, but that could change in the 2026/2027 campaign. Fernandes rejected an approach from Saudi Arabia club Al-Hilal in favour of staying at United last year. However, he made headlines in December when he suggested United wanted him to join Al-Hilal. The Portugal international previously said during a sit-down with Manchester-based reporters in October that the club had echoed Ruben Amorim's desire for him to stay, though.

Lisandro Martinez

The Reds have the option of a one-year extension in Martinez's contract. The defender missed the first three months of the season as he recovered from a knee injury. Martinez missed more time between February and March due to a calf injury, and was suspended for three games shortly after his return due to the controversial pull of Dominic Calvert-Lewin's hair.

Altay Bayindir

Bayindir is set to leave Old Trafford this summer in search of regular game time. The goalkeeper's contract expires in 2027, and there is an option for an extension, but he is planning to leave before the end of the window.

Luke Shaw

United do not have a one-year extension option in Shaw's contract, meaning he will be lost on a free transfer next summer if he is not given new terms. Shaw is the longest-serving member of United's dressing room. The left-back joined from Southampton in the summer of 2014, signing for Louis van Gaal's first season in charge in a £27million deal. The 30-year-old has made 325 appearances for United during his time in Manchester. He was the only United player to start every Premier League game this term, avoiding injury throughout the entire campaign.

Article continues below. Harry Maguire and Tom Heaton are heading into the final year of their contracts, but they recently both signed new one-year deals. Maguire's contract includes the option of a 12-month extension.
