Louis Saha has challenged Manchester United to hijack Liverpool's pursuit of Yan Diomande, as the RB Leipzig winger was compared to Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal.
Diomande is in demand this summer and is wanted by both Liverpool and European champions Paris Saint-Germain. However, Leipzig are determined to keep hold of their 19-year-old winger and want him to sign a new contract.
Liverpool have made it known they are ready to commit to a package worth up to £86 million for the Ivory Coast international, who is expected to start against Germany at the World Cup on Saturday night. The Bundesliga side are holding out for a fee closer to £112 million.
Saha, who played for United between 2004 and 2008, thinks United should look to steal a march during the impasse between Liverpool and Leipzig.
Saha's Call for United
"Man Utd should hijack Liverpool’s interest in Yan Diomande, definitely," Saha told Casinolyze.co.uk. "This type of winger now dominates football. When you have that confidence and simplicity in your game, to dribble, pass, be physical, and be courageous, I love that."
"Those styles are amazing. I think Diomande had a great opening game, and it's been a year with Leipzig where he's done really well. I am pleased to see that kind of career because it was not easy starting in the US and now being a superstar. I think he can be a superstar like Lamine Yamal."
World Cup Performance
Diomande earned himself a player of the match award for his performance against Ecuador in the opening game of their World Cup campaign earlier this week. Saha added: "Those guys, I remember in 2006, Franck Ribery, I found out about him only a few months before joining the camp and he shined in that World Cup with his brilliance and his innocence. I love that."
Liverpool continue to be locked in talks with RB Leipzig over Diomande, who they value at £112 million. The Reds have already made significant progress but face competition from PSG and now potential interest from Manchester United.
