Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of Alejandro Rosalen as their new first-team goalkeeping coach, replacing Xavi Valero. The 49-year-old Spaniard joins Andoni Iraola's backroom staff after five years at Napoli, where he helped the club win two Serie A titles in 2022/23 and 2024/25.
Rosalen's Career Path
Rosalen began his coaching career in Valencia's academy, where he spent eight years. He then had a single season at Hungarian club Videoton before an eight-year stint at Fiorentina. In 2021, he moved to Napoli, contributing to their Scudetto victories. Liverpool's club website stated: "Alejandro Rosalen has been appointed as Liverpool's new first-team goalkeeping coach. He arrives with a wealth of experience."
Valero's Departure
Valero informed Liverpool before the end of last season of his desire to leave, just 12 months after rejoining from West Ham. According to The Athletic, his exit was mutual and unrelated to Arne Slot's dismissal. Valero was previously part of Rafael Benitez's staff at Anfield between 2007 and 2010.
Diomande Transfer U-Turn
Long-time Liverpool target Yan Diomande was reported to have agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain in June. However, no agreement exists between PSG and RB Leipzig, who are holding out for an £86.8 million fee. Fabrizio Romano has claimed that other clubs are still trying to hijack the deal, potentially causing Diomande to reconsider his decision to join PSG. It remains unclear if Liverpool have revived their interest.
