Halifax to Close 56 Branches in 2026 - Full List

Britain's high streets face another setback as Halifax proceeds with a significant reduction of its physical branches. A total of 56 Halifax branches are scheduled to close from June 16, 2026, impacting vulnerable residents, small business owners, and the elderly who rely on in-person services.

Massive Shift to Digital Banking

The Lloyds Banking Group, which owns Halifax, cites a dramatic decline in footfall at physical stores, making them unsustainable. The group argues that customers are increasingly managing their finances online. Alongside Halifax closures, Lloyds will also shut 59 branches this year. Other banks, including Santander, Barclays, and NatWest, have announced similar closures, with Which? estimating around 6,693 bank branches closed in the UK between January 2015 and January 2026.

Impact on Communities

Customers affected by closures may need to travel longer distances for services like cheque deposits, mortgage advice, or pension withdrawals. However, a Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson stated: "With access to one of the biggest branch networks in the UK, customers can use any Lloyds or Halifax branch. Alongside other options like community bankers, the Post Office, PayPoint, and our apps, we offer more choice and convenience."
