Four people have been charged with attempted murder following violent outbreaks at the Arsenal victory parade in London. Two teenagers and two men face the charge, among 29 arrests made by police on May 31 in Islington. Eight others have been charged with offences including grievous bodily harm, sexual assault, and assault on an emergency worker.
Injuries and damage
Six people were stabbed during the celebrations, and Met officers also sustained injuries. One officer suffered a slash wound to the hand, and another was hit on the head by an object thrown from the crowd. Four police vans had broken lights and dents.
Appeal for information
The Met is appealing for information on other incidents from the parade day. On Tuesday, the force released images of nine men they want to speak to. Detective Chief Inspector Phil Coster said: “These incidents occurred on a day when fans should have been able to enjoy celebrations safely with family and friends. Instead, we saw a small number of individuals engage in behaviour that put others at risk.”
More than 500 officers were deployed, with specialist search and drone teams. Coster added: “Their presence helped ensure the vast majority of supporters were able to enjoy the celebrations safely. While the event was largely safe and brought thousands of fans together to celebrate, we did see instances of disorder, anti-social behaviour and some violent incidents.”
He urged: “If you recognise any of the men pictured, or have any information that could assist our investigation, please get in touch with us.”
Up to one million Arsenal fans lined the streets around the Emirates Stadium to celebrate the club’s Premier League win. The five-mile route saw players parade around the stadium as the sky lit up in red.
