A family have said they are 'heartbroken beyond measure' after their mother died suddenly in Benidorm. June Fetter, from Fife, passed away unexpectedly in September following what her daughter described as a "short but incredibly difficult fight".
Family faces repatriation costs
Hollie Fetter said the family now face the task of bringing her mother home to Scotland after the tragedy, which "happened so suddenly". In a fundraiser launched by the family, Hollie said they "simply weren't prepared for the financial burden that comes with losing someone so unexpectedly abroad".
The GoFundMe page was set up with a £14,000 goal to cover mortuary fees, repatriation costs and funeral arrangements. At the time of writing, it had raised £11,382.
Tribute to a 'loving and devoted' mum
In the fundraiser, Hollie wrote: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we have to share the heart-breaking news that our beautiful mum, June Fetter, has sadly passed away unexpectedly in Benidorm, following a short but incredibly difficult fight."
She added: "This has all happened so suddenly, and we are still struggling to come to terms with the fact that the woman who was always so full of life, happiness and laughter is no longer with us. Mum was the most loving and devoted mum we could ever have asked for. She was caring, fun, bubbly and would genuinely do anything for anyone."
Hollie said her mother was a singer, and that music was "a huge part" of her identity. The family managed to get to Benidorm in time to be with their mum in her final moments, she added.
Final moments and fundraising
Hollie said: "Her voice, her laughter and her infectious personality will stay with us forever. We were able to make it across to Benidorm to be by mum's side in her final moments. We are so grateful that we were able to be there, hold her close and tell her how much we love her."
She continued: "We are now faced with the heart-breaking task of making arrangements to bring mum home to Scotland. As she passed away abroad, there are significant and completely unexpected costs involved. We are currently being asked to provide money for mum to be transferred to the mortuary before we can continue with the arrangements to bring her home and give her the farewell she deserves."
In a tribute, Hollie said: "We will miss you more than words could ever say, mum. Keep singing up there. Your voice will always be with us." Her son Darren added: "You were so loved by us all and many more. You were one in a billion. I will miss you everyday for the rest of my life. Keep singing up there sweetheart. I am absolutely heartbroken beyond measure."
