Police are investigating after a group of six diners left a seafood restaurant in Bigbury without paying a nearly £600 bill. The incident occurred at The Oyster Shack on Saturday, 25 July.
Details of the dine-and-dash
Three men and three women ordered four lobsters and a fruits de mer seafood platter before slipping away one by one without settling their bill. The group fled in a black Range Rover. Staff have repeatedly tried to contact the diners using the phone number provided at booking, but have received no response.
Owner’s update
Owner Kieron Vanstone said on 29 July that the group had still not been in touch. "We've given them a deadline for response but they're still dodging our calls. We have left the matter with the police," he stated.
Police investigation
Although the restaurant’s CCTV was not operational at the time, a fellow diner noted the registration plate of the black Range Rover. That information has been handed to Devon and Cornwall Police. A police spokesperson confirmed: "Police are aware of an incident where a number of customers left The Oyster Shack, Bigbury, without paying their bill on Saturday 25 July. Enquiries into this matter are ongoing. Anyone with any information that may assist investigating officers is asked to call police on 101 or visit our website quoting 50260196491."
